CRISPY JALAPENO POPPER BEEF TAQUITOS BURSTING WITH IRRESISTIBLE CREAMY, CHEESY SPICY (CUSTOMIZABLE) BEEF FILLING ALL COCOONED IN CRISPY TORTILLALAND TORTILLAS!
These easy, cheesy beef taquitos are one of my favorite recipes to come out of my kitchen and will be the touchdown game day (or any day!) appetizer at all your gatherings and parties! You can even make the filling completely ahead of time for an easy roll and toast appetizer!
Watch just how easy it is to make these Crispy Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquitos!
I love jalapeno poppers so much so that I’ve made Jalapeno Popper Dip (a MUST), Jalapeno Popper Muffins and now these Jalapeno Popper Taquitos! There is just something about the ooey, gooey, cheesy spiciness that can’t be beat. Or so I thought. Add some beef and some Mexican seasonings and roll the deconstructed jalapeno popper in a tortilla and hello addicting deliciousness!
With this Crispy Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquito recipe yielding 12 taquitos, you would think it would serve 6 but for Patrick and I, it serves 2 because we just could not stop inhaling this beefy cheesy deliciousness. And my friend who made the taquito video? She said they were all gone in seconds after the last shot. We are talking some serious, heavy hitting, undeniable deliciousness.
These Crispy Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquitos make a favorite-ever dinner or if you really want to steal the show at your next football party and have every guest begging you for the recipe, serve them as a new unique favorite-ever #partyfood! In addition to their ridiculously delectable filling, these Crispy Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquitos are made with my very favorite TortillaLand tortillas that you purchase raw at Costco so they puff up and crisp up in minutes as you cook them in the skillet. You can cook them without any oil at all but I like to use 1 teaspoon so they get even crispier.
I featured these TortillaLand tortillas specifically in my mouthwatering sweet heat Slow Cooker Honey Buffalo Chicken Taquitos, but I use these tortillas all the time because as my Mexican food connoisseur husband always says, Mexican food is only as good as the tortillas, and these TortillaLand tortillas are the best with far superior texture and fresh taste! TortillaLand tortillas are made of five simple recognizable ingredients – wheat flour, water, canola oil, salt sugar – love the freshness. So #gotortillaland and don’t skimp on the TortillaLand tortillas, they truly make a difference!
These Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquitos are done in under 30 minutes so you can be cheering on your favorite team from the sofa instead of the kitchen. To make, simply, brown beef with jalapenos, onions and garlic. Stir in your fiestalicious spices, salsa and cream cheese followed by Pepper Jack Cheese.
Then roll your creamy, cheesy filling in your TortillaLand tortillas and shower the filling with more cheese.
Finally, cook your taquitos in the skillet for just a couple minutes and the TortillaLand uncooked tortillas puff to golden deliciousness. Serve with guacamole, avocado crema, sour cream, Pico de Gallo , Homemade Salsa, or Salsa Verde and either Cilantro lime rice or Restaurant-Style Mexican Rice
You can find TotillaLand tortillas in the refrigerated section of most Costcos. As I was checking out the cashier started gushing about how much she loved these tortillas – this happens almost every single time I purchase them, so often in fact, I posted about it last year! If you would like to start gushing too, find your TortillaLand tortillas at Costco and make these Cripsy Jalapeno Popper Beef Taquitos ASAP!
Happy cooking and better yet, happy eating!

Ingredients
- 12 TortillaLand raw medium tortillas
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 small onion, chopped
- 2-4 jalapenos, seeded, deveined, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup salsa (medium for more of a kick)
- 2 cups freshly grated Pepper Jack cheese, divided
Instructions
- Add beef, jalapenos and onions to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until onions are softened and meat is cooked through. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Drain off any excess fat (if there is any).
- Stir in all of the spices/seasonings, followed by salsa and cream cheese. Heat over medium low heat until cream cheese is completely melted, stirring often. Stir in 1 cup pepper Jack cheese until melted. Remove from heat.
- To assemble, add a heaping ¼ cup filling to the bottom third of each raw tortilla and top with a heaping tablespoon cheese. Tightly roll up tortillas.
- Heat one teaspoon olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat (optional for extra crispiness). Working in batches, add taquitos and cook, until golden brown on all sides, rotating as needed.

Jen says
Awesome Layne, I’m so glad these did not dissapoint! Patrick is a huge fan of taquitos too – they have great taste 🙂
Debi H says
These were absolutely the best!!! I froze what my husband and I could not eat and we have been eating them once a week for the past 3 weeks. Just thaw, heat in the microwave, then toss them in a fry pan to “crisp” up. Amazing…………………………………
Jen says
Awesome Debi! I love that these are the meal that keeps on giving! So good to know that they freeze well too – I’ll have to make a note of that in the recipe – thanks!
Francesca says
Did you cook them before freezing them? Thank you so much.
Jen says
I would cook them first to help prevent them from becoming soggy. Let them cool completely in a single layer then line on a baking sheet so they aren’t touching. Flash freeze for 1-2 hours or until solid, then transfer to a large freezer bag and squeeze out any excess air. Alternatively, wrap each taquito individually in foil then place in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Alexa says
For those of us that don’t live near a Costco or can’t find uncooked tortillas I used regular flour tortillas brushed with oil and baked them at 450 for ten minutes after filling the taquitos. Totally delicious!
Jen says
Awesome Alexa, thank you for the tip! I’m so glad you loved these taquitos!
Erin Strait says
Tortilla Land Tortillas definately can’t be beat!!! We make a southwestern tostada with the tortillas. We cook the tortilla and then layer everything on the top and let it cook and warm together! Delicious!
(for $50 Costco card)

Came across this site a couple days ago and immediately began bookmarking things to ty. My husband and I made this recipe last night and wow! We devoured these. One of the best things we’ve made. We are planing on using the filling as a dip during football season. Thanks for this one!
Jen says
Hi Rikki, I’m so happy you stumbled across my site, welcome! and I’m so happy you loved the taquitos so much! I love your idea of using the filling as a dip – I might have to borrow that idea 🙂 I hope you love exploring and find many new favorites!
Tina R. says
We don’t have a Costco in my town but I was excited to find these tortillas at my local Wal Mart in the refrigerated section near the Mexican cheeses and chorizo. I made these last night and they were a hit at my house…so yummy! I will be making these again for sure. Thanks for the great recipe!
Jen says
That is great to know they are at Walmart now too, thanks Tina! I’m so happy this was a hit!!!
Jesseca says
We loved this recipe! I have a super picky eater and he even asked for seconds. I can count on one hand how many times that’s happened.
We did make one minor change. I didn’t have fresh jalapenos, so I substituted with diced pickled jalapenos. Stirred them in with the seasonings and salsa.
Definitely plan on making these again. Only thing we might do differently is bake vs fry (for ease), but they were good made as directed!
Jen says
Thank you Jesseca! I love hearing these beef taquitos are a favorite even for your picky eater!
Amy says
I haven’t made these yet, but they look delicious. I just had a question…how do the tortillas get “done” in the middle of the taquito? It looks like just the outside gets cooked, and not the middle.
Jen says
Hi Amy, they cook in the middle from residual heat but only the outsides get crispy. I hope you love them as much as us!
Cat says
Hi Jennifer! Just found you…yay! Say, can these be popped in the deep fryer? Much easier than browning in a pan. Thanks!
Jen says
Welcome Cat! Yes, these can be deep fried – yum!
Sue says
Hi. Is it flour or corn tortillas. You say medium. Is that the 6 or 8 inch size. Thanks
Jen says
Hi Sue, either one will work, but I believe La Tortilla Land come in 8-inch tortillas.
Jan says
These taquitos look delish! I’m super thankful for all the comments because I’d have hesitated to try them if I couldn’t find raw tacos. Now I know they can be made by brushing regular tacos with oil and baked, can be deep fried and made in various ways. Flexibility is great!
Jen says
Thanks Jan, I’m excited for you to try them!
Chelsea Fitts says
Hi! I plan on trying this out tomorrow for dinner… my question is can I use home made flour tortilla dough? I’ve been baking all my bread & tortillas from scratch lately, & would love to try this w my fav tortilla recipe. I am not familiar w the brand you suggest. Thanks!
Jen says
Hi Chelsea, I think homemade would work great!
Nancy says
Where do you find these tortillas at Costco? Refrigerator section?
Jen says
Yes the refrigerated section. I have also seen them in the refrigerated section at the grocery store and Walmart as well now. Good luck!
Natalie says
Loooove this recipe! I made them a lot when I was in grad school and then “lost the recipe” until recently! I can’t wait to make them again. Question though – do you think they would turn out just as good if I air fried them instead of in the pan? Do you have any rec’s for cooking them that way?
Jen says
Thanks so much Natalie, I’m so pleased they’re a fav! They are still good in the air fryer, just not as good, in my opinion. You can see this recipe that includes how and eve pics comparing baked, air fryer and pan fried: https://carlsbadcravings.com/taquitos/
Stephanie says
These look and sound absolutely delicious! Your recipes never disappoint. I’d love to try these, if you’ve got some pull with tortillaland maybe you could encourage them to come to Costco in Canada! Lol. We don’t have them here but I’d love to try this recipe with your recommended tortillas.
Jen says
Thanks for making my recipes Stephanie! I wish I had a better connection with TortillaLand (there’s so many reps in between), but hopefully they’ll come to Canada eventually!
Emma says
These are going to be regular in my house. They were so easy to make, and so delicious. My picky 6 year old ate two! I didn’t add jalapeños, but otherwise made the recipe as is. Love all your yummy recipes!
Jen says
I love hearing that, thanks Emma!
Amber says
We loved these! Made a batch and froze them. Reheated them at 425F for 20-25 minutes flipping them halfway through bake time. Nice and crisp. Will make again.
Jen says
I’m so happy you loved these and will be making them again! Thank you for the great review, Amber!
Marian says
These were amazing! Followed one reviewer to freeze, warm in microwave and crisp in dry frying pan. Perfect!
Jen says
I’m so glad you loved them!!
Jeanette C says
I just made these! They were so good! Followed the recipe exactly. Found the uncooked tortillas in Walmart next to the cheese.
Jen says
I’m so glad you loved them!
Alfonso Y. Reynosa says
Hi there, Once they are assembled in the tort, rather than cooking on a skillet can I deep fry them???
Jen says
Yes, that should work just fine. Enjoy!
Alfonso Y. Reynosa says
This is something that I really want to make but I wanted to ask your opinion I want to follow the same process but what do you think about deep frying them I have a fryer and I would like to cook them in patches
Jen says
They would be fantastic deep-fried!
