Artichoke Spinach Dip

It is safe to say I am obsessed with both Artichoke Dip and Spinach Dip.ย  I love hot Spinach Dip so much, I have already shared Brie Spinach Dip,ย Spinach Dip Stuffed French Bread,ย Mexican Spinach Dipย and now this Spinach Artichoke Dip.

But out of all these recipes, this Spinach Artichoke Dip recipe is by far the EASIEST but tastes apologetically gourmet!ย  Its what I call “lazy man’s dip”- no turning on the stove, sautรฉing onions or making a roux โ€“ just mixing all the ingredients in a bowl and baking.ย  Are you already in love with this creamy decadence?

To make this Spinach Artichoke Dip, I basically doubled the dip ingredients in my Artichoke Dip Bites and added spinach – because that dip recipe is already outrageously delicious.

Now you can enjoy that same deliciousness in no-fuss 10-minute prep form just in time for New Yearโ€™s Eve so you and all your guests can be just as obsessed with this Spinach Artichoke Dip recipe as us.ย  Happy New Year!

Hot Spinach Artichoke Dip Ingredients

Let’s take a closer look at what you need to make this recipe (measurements in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post):

  • artichoke hearts:ย make sure you purchase artichoke hearts in water as opposed to marinated. Rinse and drain the artichokes well before chopping.ย  After chopping, pat dry again.ย  Artichoke hearts are located either in the canned vegetable aisle or pickles/sandwich condiments at your grocery store.

  • frozen spinach:  If you canโ€™t find 10 oz. spinach package then grab the 16 oz. and add a little more than half.  Make sure your spinach is thawed and squeezed dry so there isnโ€™t excess moisture in your Spinach Artichoke Dip which will make it runny instead of creamy.
  • cream cheese:  make sure you soften your cream cheese well so it mixes easily.  Full fat cream cheese is more creamy and melts better but you may use less fat cream cheese.
  • sour cream:  the sour cream adds a wonderful creaminess that canโ€™t be beat.  Full fat sour cream melts better but you may use nonfat.
  • mayonnaise:  adds a rich tang and melts beautifully.  If you are thoroughly opposed to mayonnaise, you may substitute with sour cream.

  • can mild chopped green chilies: these are my secret ingredient to the Best Spinach Artichoke Dip!   Take care you use MILD chopped green chiles for flavor and not heat.  If you use hot green chiles, your dip will be HOT!
  • mozzarella cheese:  Use only freshly grated mozzarella cheese because it not only tastes far superior but melts much better.
  • Parmesan cheese:  freshly grated Parmesan cheese will also melt much better.  You can shred it with your food processor in 30 seconds with the right attachment.
  • seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, paprika, salt and pepper infuse our Artichoke Spinach Dip with sublime layers of flavor.
  • cayenne:  the cayenne pepper adds a nice kick to enliven the Spinach Artichoke Dip and cut through all the creaminess.  I use ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper but you can use less if you donโ€™t want any heat at all.

            Hi Jenn,
Needless to say, this has to be good. Thanks for another great recipe.

btw, there’s a bit of a typo you may want to change. (I don’t mind being a proofreader. It’s hard to proofread our own writings..I know).

Thanks Allie! I read my posts at least 3 times and still don’t catch everything! Happy New Year!

Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen? Will I need to cook it then beforehand?

            • Jen says

Yes, you will need about 1 pound frozen spinach and cook it first. Enjoy!

          4. Ronda says

Made it for a going away party at work and everyone loved it & many requested the recipe. Many said it was better than any restaurant’s they had. I did use a medium heat can of green chilis but it was not spicy at all.
I think it would be awesome with pepper jack cheese! THX for a yummy and easy crockpot dip!

            • Jen says

You’re so welcome Ronda, I’m so pleased it was such a huge hit! Love the idea of using pepper Jack -yum!

Made this and a few other recipes on here, deviled eggs and stuffed mushrooms for my daughters baby shower a couple of weeks ago, everything of course was gone in minutes, I barely got some so I have it in the oven right now to watch the playoffs later with hubby.

            • Jen says

What a wonderful grandma! I’m so glad that all the dishes were a hit, and that now you can enjoy some too!

          8. Pam A says

I made this as an appetizer for Easter. I followed the recipe to a โ€œTโ€. Freshly grated both cheeses. We all agreed that it needed more Parmesan and less Mozzarella.
