You can thank the brilliant mind of Patrick for these Strawberry Cream Cheese Wontons with Chocolate Dip!
I can’t stop thanking him…
When I told you Patrick was the master wonton maker in my Pineapple Cream Cheese Wonton post, it was no exaggeration. He not only loves to make wontons, but dreams up all sorts of delectable fillings to burst out of the crispy shell. When he was telling me his idea for Strawberry Cream Cheese Wontons, (don’t worry this uses strawberry pie filling, so you can make them year round) he said I needed to post them – soon – so you could all have them for Christmas Eve/New Years. Isn’t he thoughtful?
So I realize its a little late for Christmas Eve (but not too late if you really wanted too!), but you have plenty of time to make these for New Years – and might I suggest practicing eating them before New Years too?
Because, does it get any better than strawberry pie filling mixed with cream cheese with a hint of lemon and vanilla…
Baked or fried until crispy, then tossed in in powdered sugar…
Then dipped in melty, silky chocolate?
I’m still thinking of an answer…
Creamy…
And Sweet. AKA Perfection. Just like the New Year. Start it out right with these Strawberry Cream Cheese Wontons!

Ingredients
- 1 68 count package wontons
- vegetable or canola oil for frying OR olive oil or coconut oil for baking
- 1 cup powdered sugar plus more as needed
Strawberry Cream Cheese Wontons
- 1 8 oz. container Cream Cheese at room temperature
- 1 21 oz. can strawberry pie filling
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate Dip
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or 8 oz. semisweet baking chocolate
Instructions
- Add powdered sugar to a medium bowl. Set aside
- In a stand or handheld mixer, beat cream cheese until soft then mix in the remaining Strawberry Cream Cheese Filling ingredients.
- Place ½ tablespoon (1 ½ teaspoons) wonton filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Wet your finger and brush along the edges of the wonton wrapper, then fold into a triangle, pressing edges together to seal well. Place finished wontons beneath a slightly damp cloth to keep from drying out. Repeat for remaining wontons.
- To Bake: Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Place finished wontons on a baking rack placed on top of a baking sheet and lightly brush both sides of each wonton with olive oil or coconut oil. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until corners are browned and crispy. Toss in powdered sugar when finished baking.
- To Fry: Line a baking sheet with paper towels. Set aside.
- Heat approximate 3 inches of oil in a stockpot to medium high heat or to 325 degrees.
- Working in batches of 4-6 wontons, fry wontons for about about 45-60 seconds per side, flipping as soon as they are golden on each side. Remove to paper towels to drain while you add your next batch to fry, then add the fried wontons to the powdered sugar and toss to coat. Remove to a serving platter. Repeat until all wontons are done.
- Chocolate Dip: Add Chocolate Dip ingredients to a saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring until all the ingredients are melted and smooth. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
Notes
**The Chocolate Dip makes a generous amount but I would rather have too much than too little - so if you find yourself with extra, it reheats beautifully in the microwave or stovetop for another use.
