How to Make Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps

Chinese Chicken Salad ingredients vary wildly from cabbage, carrots, bell peppers and bean sprouts to edamame, bok choy, celery, and mushrooms.   There is no right or wrong way to make a Chinese Chicken Salad – you can essentially use whatever you have on hand, just make sure you have tons of CRUNCH.  The crunch mainly comes from the cabbage.  Oh, how I heart cabbage 10X over lettuce.  Its way crispier and stays fresh way longer.  So just keep some cabbage on hand and you will always be ready for these Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps!

The rest of the dynamic salad wrap filling is comprised of tender rotisserie chicken, fresh red bell peppers, shredded carrots, crunchy snow peas, zesty cilantro and punchy green onions.  The chicken is wonderfully flavorful thanks to the dressing (more on that later), ready in a snap and a fabulous way to use left over chicken or a fresh rotisserie chicken.

Now what really sets these Chinese Chicken Wraps apart are the 1) homemade Chinese Dressing,  2) Asian Chili Mayo. and 3)  using Flatout®  Flatbread.

Dressing for Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps

So let’s talk dressing!  Easy, addicting, best ever Asian Dressing.  This dressing is comprised of pantry ingredients that can be whipped together in minutes.   We’re talking rice vinegar, canola oil, soy sauce, Asian sweet chili sauce, sriracha, sugar and our seasonings of salt, pepper, ground ginger, garlic powder.  It is tangy and robust yet light at the same time.

The dressing also becomes our marinade as we toss our chicken with it while we prep our other veggies.  The pre-cooked chicken seeps up an astonishing amount of flavor in just minutes.  We mix the rest of our veggies with the Asian Dressing and then you can either store the salad filling to make Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps at a seconds notice (my preferred method as the flavors develop and meld and taste even better the next day), or proceed to make your Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps because you just can’t wait any longer!   also my preferred method because I have no self control when it comes to these wraps.

How to Assemble Chinese Chicken Salad Wraps

To assemble your wraps, its mere minutes of slathering, filling and wrapping.  We slather our wraps with our fabulous Asian Chili Mayo that is a simple whisking of mayonnaise with Asian sweet chili sauce to create a sweet and spicy creamy base to cocoon our hearty filling.  This simple step is crucial as it adds a silky refreshing layer that unifies the crunchy filling.  Finally, all the goodness get’s swaddled in Flatout®  Flatbread.   Typically, a wrap is rolled in a tortilla but once you try them in Flatout® Flatbread, you will never go back.

Flatout®  Flatbread is soft yet thicker than a traditional tortilla so it doesn’t tear or get soggy AND Flatout® Flatbread is actually good for you! I used Flatout® Multi-Grain with Flax which is made from 100% stone ground whole wheat and are high in fiber, with half the calories and half the carbs of two slices of 100% whole wheat bread!  Flatout® also boasts a gluten free flatbread and many other flavor variations so there is something for everyone!

Ingredients

Wraps

  • 6 Flatout® Flatbreads I use Multi-grain with Flax
  • 6 romaine lettuce leaves (optional if assembling in advance)

Salad Filling

  • 2 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken breasts
  • 3 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 1 large carrot finely shredded
  • 1 cup Snow peas ends trimmed and julienned
  • 1 red bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup loosely packed cilantro chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

Dressing

Asian Chili Mayo

Instructions

  • Add all of the Dressing ingredients (except lime juice) to a large bowl and whisk to combine, starting with just a little sriracha and adding more to taste (you can also add more once the salad is added).
  • Add chicken to Dressing and toss to coat while you chop your veggies.
  • Add all of the remaining Salad Filling ingredients to the Dressing and toss until evenly coated. If you are making filling ahead and plan on refrigerating, then add lime juice (as the flavors mellow). If you are serving immediately, then add if you like more tang.
  • Whisk the Asian Chili Mayo ingredients together. Spread the entire surface of each Flatbread with approximately 1 tablespoon Spread.
  • If you are assembling in advance, lay a lettuce leaf in the middle of each flatbread (this will prevent flatbread from getting soggy). Evenly divide Salad Filling between flatbreads in a row on top of lettuce/flatbread. Tightly roll up flatbreads and slice in half.

Notes

Don’t miss the “how to make” recipe video at the top of the post!
*You can make the Salad filling ahead of time and store in the refrigerator until ready to make wraps. If this is your plan, then I suggest adding the lime juice.
**I prefer making the filling ahead of time and refrigerating as the flavors meld beautifully and taste even better the next day.  Some water will be released as the Filling is refrigerated, so use tongs to assemble wraps.

These look delicious and so colorful (pretty + healthy). What a great tip to use a lettuce leaf as a barrier to prevent soggy wraps! Thanks for all the great recipes, I make something from your site at least weekly.

    • Jen says

Thank you so much Sarah! I LOVE hearing you make something from my site weekly! I hope you are able to make these soon and love them!

  2. Rachel says

I often find recipes with an Asian flavor profile a little lackluster, like it’s missing that magic something. Thankfully that was not a problem with these wraps. Very complete here. I made them after seeing an Instagram post — so colorful thanks to such a nice variety of veggies. So good and frankly not very difficult to make. I just adore Carlsbad Craving recipes.

    • Jen says

Awesome Rachel! I love hearing these were flavorful and packed with veggies you love! I absolutely love hearing you are enjoying my recipes, thank you so much!

      • Nicole says

Doing a julienne with the snow peas was so clever! Can’t wait to try these but I will go all vegetarian and use some black beans and maybe some mushrooms. thanks for a beautiful recipe!

Looks like a great recipe, but how do you change the ingredient amounts when you change the number of servings?

    • Jen says

The ingredient amounts should automatically change when you put in the number of servings.

  5. Tracy says

Tracking everything I eat. Do you have the nutritional information on this recipe?

  6. Tracy says

We love this recipe! We make it all the time. We use shredded roast chicken and some bagged veggies (shredded cabbage, shredded carrots) for convenience. Easy to put together and a lite/fresh summer meal.

    • Jen says

I’m so happy this is a favorite, thank you Tracy! I love your idea of bagged veggies to make it extra quick!

  7. Lisa says

Unbelievable! I made this for my lunch this week and it was so good, I ended up serving it for dinner as well! I followed the recipe exactly as written, including the lime juice. Thanks once again for another winner!

    • Jen says

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment Lisa! I’m thrilled you loved it so much!

  8. Elisabeth says

In 2 weeks, since discovering your site, I’ve made your pot roast, potato salad, million dollar mac n’ cheese…..and now this! What I love the most about your recipes is that they are perfectly seasoned. Not too salty, not dull. For the cooked chicken, I rubbed some breasts with cinnamon, brown sugar, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper and grilled them before shredding. These were so tasty, fresh….perfect for a healthy lunch. I used the lime and romaine lettuce too. Only thing, it made a ton. Would maybe cut in half next time, or be more diligent in measuring the veggies….lol. I kinda eyeballed the veg. Thank you! Keep up the awesome work 🙂

    • Jen says

Welcome to Carlsbad Cravings Elisabeth, I’m so pleased you’re enjoying my recipes! Your spice-rubbed chicken sounds divine and no doubt made this Chinese Chicken Salad even more delicious! I hope you continue to have fun exploring my recipes!

If I add the salad barrier, would this save for two or three days prepared for meal prep???

  11. Kali says

These were fabulous!! Super quick and so yummy and healthy. I used regular rice vinegar and it came out great. Sending this to friends and saving it for future reference to make!!!

    • Jen says

Yay! Thank you so much, Kali! I am so happy this was a winner!

  12. MJ Harris says

I made these tonight! I love the colors, the crunch, the flavors! FIVE STARS! That dressing is insane! I love that this is actually pretty versatile. Between lettuce wraps, spinach wraps, on top of ramen noodles, the dressing with just a straw-so many ideas!

    • Jen says

Wow! Thank you so much, MJ, what a glowing review! I am so happy you love this recipe (and the dressing 😉 )!
